My Design Process
Discovery
The discovery phase plays a vital role in gaining a deeper understanding of the business and its audience. Without conducting this stage, achieving satisfactory results may prove challenging.
Prior to starting any project, I believe it's important to identify the existing information, which may include analytics, market research, feedback obtained from different sources, and user stories.
Activities I typically perform in this phase are:
Stakeholder interviews to understand business objectives
Competitor analysis
Research
The research phase is pivotal because it enables me to obtain comprehensive answers to my questions about the users. This step is indispensable as without it, crafting a design that effectively tackles the right audience's problems and aligns with the business objectives can be challenging.
Activities I typically perform in this phase are:
User interviews
Journey mapping
Personas
Surveys
Design
Once all the required information is gathered, I begin exploring ideas for the product's look and feel. I typically create rough screen sketches on graph paper and also browse design-focused websites like Dribbble and Behance for inspiration.
Activities I typically perform in this phase are:
Collaborative sketching sessions
Mockups
Prototyping
Throughout the design phase, I prioritize maintaining an open communication channel with stakeholders and colleagues to consistently receive feedback. I firmly believe that collaboration is crucial for the triumph of any product.
Validate
Ensuring the design makes sense to the user is critical in every project.
Activities I typically perform in this phase are:
A/B split tests
User testing
Preference tests
In-person group tasks with follow-up surveys
